As we begin a new month we also begin a new season in the life of the church. Lent is upon us. It is a time for God’s people to refocus and prepare for what God is doing in our lives and in the life of the church. This year we will be journeying together through the book “Draw the Circle”, by Mark Batterson. This is a book that talks about prayer and the ways that God can use prayer to make a difference in our lives. God can accomplish amazing things, things beyond our expectation, when we join together in prayer to seek what God wants in our lives instead of the things that we want. Prayer is often something that is difficult for people to talk about, and even harder to get people to do. The purpose of this study will be to encourage us all to devote ourselves to prayer so that we can understand when God is leading us. I hope that you will all take this journey with us and commit to setting aside time to pray each day during this season of Lent. 2 Chronicles 7:14 reminds us that God covets our prayers. God wants us to seek Him with our lives. This is something we often take for granted. We often forget to pray, feel inadequate to prayer, or are unprepared to hear what God might be saying to us in our times of prayer. All of us, myself included, have room to grow in our prayer life. We can all stand to be better connected to God.
So as we begin this new season of Lent, I encourage you to pray. Not just for God’s blessings, but for God to show up in your life. Pray to see God’s direction for your life. Pray to see God’s direction for our church. Take this time to commit to trying something new with prayer and trust that God will bless our endeavors together.
I hope to see you all soon as we journey together through these 40 days of reflection and prayer.
